| Bio: | What am I? I'm just a guy who's trying my best to grow up in a sincere and faithful way. I am a husband. I am a homeowner. I subscribe to digital cable for the main purpose of being able to watch soccer games while living in the United States. Yes, I was born in this country, but I am still a passionate soccer fan, despite never playing a real game of it. I work as an accountant, but my heart is still behind a drumset. I am more than just a little bitter that the hard rock band in which I played for five years never had anything more than above-average local success. I grew up in middle-class suburbia, and I didn't want to live in my parents' house (or a cardboard box) for the rest of my life. So in my infinite wisdom, I switched my major two years into my collegiate tenure from music to the one concentration that is the farthest removed from music: accounting. A year before I graduated with my Bachelor's of Science degree, I realized that I couldn't hack being both a working musician and a full-time professional, so I chose the path of more money, no matter how much my heart ached from it. I still wonder whether I made the right decision. I am a Christian, and my faith in Jesus is important to me. (My testimony is posted publicly here.) However, I am not an ignorant and intolerant person. I cuss. I do go to church (and play drums in the band, my only musical outlet at the moment), but I don't believe that those who abstain from church are heathens. I respect opposing viewpoints. I am not a conservative in any popular connotation of the word. In fact, my political leanings are libertarian. I believe strongly that we can live without government (or at least much less of it) and still be a civilized society. I believe in truly free-market capitalism and individual rights. I do not believe in taxation, preemptive war, loss of axiomatic rights for any kind of "greater good", socialism of any kind, theocracies, paternal "save me from myself" laws, taxpayer/victim-supported prisons, governmental welfare, corporate handouts, trade protectionism, or any control of the state on the lives and commerce of sovereign individuals. All of the above does not make me intolerant of those who are not Christians or libertarians, however. In fact, most of the LJ friends that I currently have are neither Christian nor libertarian, and I've had quite a few friendly debates with a handful of them. So in other words, don't be turned off if you're a hardcore socialist, Buddhist, welfare recipient, or governmental employee. I don't hate you as a person. :) I do not allow people who have known me in "real-life" to read this journal, so I can be completely honest and open inside here to all whom I trust to read.
